Our Story
From a paper round in the ’80s to building an independent wealth management practice trusted by hundreds of families, every step has shaped the way Martin works with clients today. Take a look through the milestones that built his career — and the philosophy behind Wilcocks & Wilcocks.
Before boardrooms and balance sheets, there was a paper round and a work ethic that never left him. The instinct to show up, deliver, and earn trust one doorstep at a time started here.
Martin joined Barclays as a Junior Clerk at the Little Sutton Branch, the first step in what would become 14 years at Barclays spanning the late 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s.
Years on the branch floor in Liverpool and Chester taught him something the industry was starting to forget: knowing your customers, what mattered to them, their families, and their day-to-day needs.
Three years running, Martin qualified for Barclays' Eagle Club Overseas Conventions — a feat no adviser had achieved in their first three years before him. Recognition was building, but so was restlessness.
On the morning of Monday, February 17th 2003, in the director's suite at Barclays' Liverpool head office, Martin handed in his resignation. Salary, car, bonus — all set aside to build something built around clients, not products. Wilcocks & Wilcocks was born.
The practice outgrew its home city, opening a second office in London and extending the firm's reach to clients across the UK.
Martin's Amazon bestseller launched, distilling two decades of hard-won lessons — mis-sold endowments, pension transfer scandals, the 2008 crash — into a practical playbook for protecting client wealth.
